1 Our new topic is ‘Circus, Circus’.
It was wonderful to hear that a big group of children went to visit the American Circus in Newmarket last weekend. They really enjoyed telling the class all about what they saw and their favourite part of the performance. The children told us that no animals performed in that particular circus so we watched a short video clip and looked at a few photos of some animals performing in a different circus. When asked what they thought about animals performing in the circus, children immediately began to share their own opinions. With encouragement, they were able to explain the reasons for their joy in watching the animals and their concern for the animals who were performing. This then led to the question ‘should animals be kept in the circus?’. Children listened to many reasons ‘for’ and ‘against’ and made their own decision. This discussion will form the basis for our writing later in the week. We are now making sure children are confident reading and writing the phase 2 & 3 tricky words. Please practise writing these tricky words at home Phase 2 The, to, I , no, go, into Phase 3 He, she, we, me, be, was, you, are, all, her, my, they, are In Maths this week the children have been practising some doubling involving games. We have a magnetic dartboard in the classroom which children have been aiming their dart at. We help a class competition to see who could score the most points. Children ‘doubled’ their number to calculate their final score and recorded it in a class chart. The ‘Robin Doubles’ game on the internet has also helped us to practise this mathematical concept Practise doubling together as a family whenever the opportunity arises e.g. using food or toys. Pose the question to your child, ‘if you double it, how many will you have?’. Remember to count on to calculate the total…. You could even make up your own doubling game together at home. Remember to share any ideas with us at school! WB 13/6/16 Our new topic is ‘Circus, Circus’. Swimming resumed again this week and the children seem to really enjoy it. We hear many comments such as “this is the best day ever!” We have been practising our floating on top of the water in the shape of a mushroom and a starfish. Some children have taken part in seahorse races using woggles across the pool. Other children have been working on their push and glide and then kicking across to the other side of the pool. Following an assembly from Reverend Sue on Monday morning celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday, we have been busy preparing for the Isleham Gala Day. Each child has been asked to produce a piece of artwork to celebrate the Queens 90th birthday. This artwork will be judged on the day of the gala and prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Important Notes Reception will soon begin to practise our class performance for the Summer Concert that is due to take place on Thursday 14th July. Look out for more information to follow.
