A global research project that examines attitudes of the global workforce toward the use of business and personal apps, and their impact on risk, security, and corporate culture AIR was commissioned by A10 Networks and conducted independently by strategic research firm Provoke Insights More than 2,000 global working professionals were interviewed 10 countries surveyed: Brazil, China, France, Germany, India, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, the United Kingdom and the United States

More than eight of 10 (86 percent) citing either “I cannot live without apps” or it would “be a struggle” to live without them.

When given the choice of options over a 24-hour period, respondents would rather spend time with their mobile apps than have the ability to use their voice Access to apps on a smartphone was equally as important as the ability to have access to sunlight or outdoor exposure over a 24-hour period The list of other options included time with family and friends, and access to food and water Essentials in a 24-Hour Period? 7 IoT and the Weakest Link
Laptops are perceived as more vulnerable than mobile phones, when compared to a list that also includes IoT devices such as surveillance cameras, smart TVs and Internet-enabled cars. 9 A Digital Life Crisis— Identity Theft
More than one in 10 (13%) is a victim of identity theft And by a wide margin, the younger the generation, the more likely the person is to be a victim of identity theft: nearly one in five (19%) in their 20’s reported having their identity stolen Only 2% of those over 50 have been a victim of identity theft

10 A Digital Life Crisis—Hacked
One in five (20%) of respondents have had their mobile device or computer hacked Almost one in three under 30 (31%) has been hacked Of those in their 50s, only one in 10 (11%) claim to be a hacking victim Nearly three out of five (59%) think having their mobile device hacked and personal information stolen is more realistic than either having their car broken into or their home burglarized

More than One in Five (21%) has lost their mobile device or computer at some point Less than one in five (14%) has had their mobile device or computer stolen One in three (34%) of those under 30 has lost their mobile device or computer One in four (24%) of that same age demographic has had their mobile device stolen at one time

12 Password Hygiene One in 10 (11%) never change their passwords for their apps three out of 10 (29%) use the same password for the majority of their apps Fewer than one in five (17%) use a different password for every app

14 Attitudes Toward App Use and Security
Four out of five (83%) think about security risks when first downloading an app But after that, security becomes much less of a concern Roughly one in three (32%) surveyed think about security concerns when using personal apps.  For business apps, security is even less of a thought, as fewer than one in five (17%) surveyed cite security as a top thought when using them.

15 App Developers and Security
More than two out of five (43%) do not believe security is the top priority for third-party app developers.  When it comes to their own company, only half (53%) think their company’s app developers have the skills to build safe business apps for them. Even with these beliefs, people still download apps and take their chances, as nearly half (47%) expect to be protected from cyber attacks by either their company or third-party app developers.

16 App Apathy The acceptance of the inevitability of getting hacked is growing: Nearly one in three (29%) feel cyber attacks “are a fact of life”  One in five (21%) “just try not to think about” cyber attacks
