Habitat works delivered over last four years in partnership with local land owners, Wild Trout Trust, Grantham Angling Association Fly fishing Section, and community volunteers.

Easton Park- Two stage low flow channel that is overtopped in high flow events but keeps channel opens in low flows in summer

Two stage channel working in high flow event allowing water to store on flood plain without compromising flood flow capacity within the channel

Grange Farm – Impounded reach, over widened, depositing silt with a barrier to fish migration.

Grange Farm Weir – impassable to fish and impounding reach.

Natural design bypassing the weir following old original channel reinstating pool riffle sequences and meanders.

Great Ponton – Historically straightened channel, woody material added to increase sinuosity and trap suspended sediment to slow the flow and create bed diversity

Little Ponton. – Woody material added to slow the flow and improve natural geomorphology cleaning gravels and creating localised bed scour, meanders and protection for fish from predators.

The Grantham Gap – The area we are focusing on in the Grantham Urban Plan which will link up a wildlife corridor from works up and downstream whilst improving amenity and aesthetics along the river.

Syston – Woody material added to improve geomorphology and biodiversity.

Barkston – Use of small paired vanes to create localised bed scour to clean gravels and allow areas for fish to spawn.

Marston Mill – Historic channel that could be reinstated by bypassing existing mill structure and reconnecting with its flood plain providing flood storage options and increased biodiversity

Westborough – Hinging of bank side trees to re-inforce bank from erosion whilst providing habitat in-stream for fish to shelter from flow and predators.

Success!! Brown Trout redd (nest) where trout have laid their eggs on the cleaned gravels just off the habitat works in the background.
