3. English English 12th grade Sci- Fi/Fantasy Literature, 9th Grade English, Expository Composition
Common Core Standards:
All instructional components focus on argument, exposition (including literary analysis), and narrative, and integrate the skills of reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
At San Pedro High students, teachers, and parents work together to make learning better!

4. English 12AB Syllabus Highlights:
Expectations:
Students are not here to fail!
Materials required for class include a composition book 2 pens black and blue, 2 pencils, 2 highlighters, a folder, notebook, or binder with notebook paper.
Class assignments include daily entries ½ page or more, partner and small group discussions and other reading and writing assignments, close reading and annotating of a variety of texts, and timed essay writings.
Accelerated Reader: Students will test for reading level and use computer to increase reading ability to grade level
Two timed writing assignments and
research project on subject choice.

5. 12 Grade English Language and Exposition Syllabus Highlights:
Students are not here to fail! Timed essay writing includes argument, analysis of an author’s argument and synthesis. There will be OTHER writing assignments as well. Class time will be used for seminars, discussions, group presentations, and timed writings. The more time students spend outside of class preparing, the better prepared those students will be for the AP exam AND for college. Upcoming tests: SAT/ACT begins January 2017

6. Sci-Fi/Fantasy Literature (12th grade)
This class consists of the historical study of Sci-Fi. We will cover the beginning of the writing to present. The fantasy portion will consist of what we consider fantasy vs Science.
Students will choose a book of their own to read and report on.

7. Grading Criteria A = Advanced (A), P=Proficient (B,C), B=Basic (D,F),
BB=Below Basic/Missing/Incomplete (F),
Student work is assessed using rubrics/scoring guides and evidence of learning and growth through mastery of skills taught.
Final course grades are based on the level of work at which your student consistently performs.
I have come to believe if a student is receiving a D, the student is not performing to the best of his/her ability. All students have every opportunity to earn at least a C in this course through revision practices.

8. LAUSD Attendance Policy & Class Partication
School policy: no more than 3
Days absent each semester to participate in extra curricular activities.
Class participation: Absences definitely impact final course grade!!

9. Business Academy
Focus on careers in business operations, business administration, marketing and sales, financial planning, investing, banking, and real estate services.
Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Tourism and Global Economy.
Possible Electives:
Accounting, Web Marketing, Consumer Economics, and Business Law

10. Pedro Action League SLC Theme Public Service
Focus on law, societal issues, world events, the role of the citizen, global studies, and national security. Explore careers in law enforcement and public services.

11. Pirate Health & Fitness
Focus on health, nutrition, managing and providing medical and therapy services, and health information.
Explore careers in Sports medicine, Sports management, and athletic training. Careers in Health sciences, nursing, and physical therapy.
Possible Electives:
Anatomy and Physiology, Body Dynamics, Sports Therapy, Nutrition, First Aid and Emergency care, Physical therapy aide

12. Global Environmental SLC

Focus on the study of Corporate and Social Ethics, Global Awareness, Environmental Science, Development of Leadership skills, Social Development, and Advocacy.
