2. Abstract
After completing fellowship, the teaching and learning techniques and skills that we learned faded with time, but we were specifically told that the “best teachers practice reflection.” This skill stayed with us, and when we returned after fellowship, we decided to apply this to our practice with the medical students. The project began as we asked the students to reflect on experiences that they had in their first patient encounters, in anatomy or in the clinical world. As the students found meaningful stories, they sought out faculty members to help them publish their stories. The faculty members also worked to help the medical students find meaning in what they were writing. The project is now on going, and faculty members from across the campus are contributing to this project, which soon will be enough for a book. After the fellowship, we have learned that the best teachers not only practice reflection—they teach it.
