4 Monitoring Job Postings
For students seeking jobs in Ohio, OhioMeansJobs.com is a great resource. Also, while we will go through OhioMeansJobs.com here, OhioMeansInternships.com is also a great resources and often has different postings listed.

5 OhioMeansJobs.com Tip: On this site and generally when you are searching for job postings, use the Advanced Search feature as this will allow you to better tailor your search.

6 OhioMeansJobs.com This site, like most, allows you to narrow your search after you view your initial results. So it is worth trying a broad search, and then narrowing from there. Tip: Even if there is a dropdown with the specific title you want, it is worth also doing a broad keyword search using terms such as law or legal and browsing through in case the title used for the position is not an exact match with the drop down menu.

7 Monitoring Job Postings
There are countless other job search sites and employment resources, and for lists of such resources, check the Moritz Career Services Useful Job/Resource Links page.

8 Resources for Researching Employers
Your employer research will be tailored to the types of employers and areas of law you are interested in. We will discuss: Firm resources Government resources Public interest resources

9 Law Firms If you are interested in researching potential firm employers, particularly smaller and mid-sized firms that may not be listed in the NALP directory, Martindale.com is a great resource. You can access Martindale directly, or through LexisNexis through the Career Help tab by clicking on Lawyer & Firm Locator. If you need assistance searching Martindale-Hubbell through Lexis, your Lexis Representative, Tara Santarelli is an excellent resource.

10 Researching Law Firms Searching for Law Firms Searching for Lawyers

11 Law Firms Tip: As you are searching, read through the practice area lists fully. Your area of interest may be listed in a few different ways. After an initial search, you can click on “Edit Search” at the top of your results list to refine your search terms. And remember to think broadly about the features of the work you are interested in, and consider what other practice areas may fit that interest.

12 Researching Government Employers
State government Our Useful Job/Resource Links page, there are state by state resources which include links to state government job databases. Ohio State Government Job Database: Federal Government University of Arizona Government Honors & Internship Handbook (Get Username and Password) USAJobs.gov – Federal Government Job Database

13 USAJobs.gov Tip: As you are searching for jobs using keywords, run your search a few different ways to familiarize yourself with the search engine. For example, USAJobs.gov reads all search terms as being connected by an “and”, which can greatly narrow your search. Also, for a nice listing of government agencies, follow the usa.gov link at the bottom of the page. Look through the agencies for employers that interest you.

14 Researching Public Interest Employers
PSJD.org is an excellent resource for searching employer profiles, finding job postings, and for public interest and public sector job resources generally. Idealist.org similarly features employer profiles along with job postings, and focuses on public interest and volunteer opportunities. University of Arizona Public Policy Handbook (username and password available on the Moritz Career Services webpage).

15 PSJD.org On PSJD.org, to look for Employer Profiles, click the Search Jobs and Employers tab. Then click on the Advanced Search tab. Searching employer profiles and not just job postings is a great way to find potential employers of interest. Don’t forget, many jobs are never posted! Proactively research and reach out to employers that interest you. Tip: Set up alert through job search sites whenever possible. That way you can stay up to date on opportunities while saving you time and effort.

16 Researching Informational Resources
Many of the resources we have already discussed are good for this, such as the attorney search feature through Martindale. Another great resource: Local Bar Directories. In Columbus, The CBA includes their directory online, or we have copies in our office. Some additional resources for connecting with informational resources include: Alumni lists, available through the career services office; and Your Career Advisor, who is happy to try to connect you with informational resources.
