There are over 30,000 children on the child protection register today.
Yet this known statistic is only a fraction of the total number of children at risk; most cases of child abuse go unreported.

12. Dennis O’Neill- 1945
28/06/44 – Wedi bod yng ngofal Cyngor Bwrdeisdref Casnewydd am chwe blynedd – wedi ei roi mewn gofal
Saith mis yn ddiweddarach – ychydig cyn ei ben- blwydd yn 13 oed roedd wedi marw.
Cafodd drawiad ar y galon yn dilyn cael ei guro’n ddifrifol. Cafodd ei ddarganfod gyda briwiau difrifol ar ei ysgyfaint, ei goesau wedi sgardio ac yn pwyso pedair stôn. Dedfrydwyd Gough i chwe blynedd o garchar am ddyn-laddiad. Cynyddwyd hyn i 10 mlynedd wedi protestiadau gan y cyhoedd.
Dedfrydwyd Estter i chwe mis.
Archwiliad un dyn, pedwar diwrnod Sir Walter Monckton – dim ymchwiliad neu arolygiad.
Dadlau dros blant i aros neu ddychwelyd at eu teulu lle bo’n bosib.
28/06/44 – Had already been in the care or Newport Borough council for six years – placed into foster care
Seven months later – two months shy of his 13th birthday he was dead.
Suffered heart attack following severe beating. Found to have severe ulcers, chapped legs, weighed four stone. Gough sentenced to six years for manslaughter. This led to 10 years after a public outcry.
Esther sentenced to six months.
Sir Walter Monckton’s one man, four day inquiry – no inquiry or supervision
Led to another Children act - not the one we use today.
Advocated for children to be kept with or returned to family where possible.
