What They Do Prepares and dispenses medications, following prescriptions issued by physicians, dentists, or other authorized medical practitioners. Advises customers on the selection of medication brands, medical equipment and health-care supplies. Provides specialized services to help patients manage conditions such as diabetes, asthma, smoking cessation, or high blood pressure. Reviews prescriptions to assure accuracy, to ascertain the needed ingredients, and to evaluate their suitability. Assesses the identity, strength and purity of medications. Collaborates with other health care professionals to plan, monitor, review, and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of drugs and drug regimens, providing advice on drug applications and characteristics. Maintains records, such as pharmacy files, patient profiles, charge system files, inventories, control records for radioactive nuclei, and registries of poisons, narcotics, and controlled drugs. Summary Pharmacy is a great career field to be in. If you are interested in the healthcare field you should look into taking healthcare classes and high level science classes. If you are not able to take these classes you should volunteer at your local hospital. If you are not sure if pharmacy is right for you, you should speak with your neighborhood pharmacist. Pharmacy is a much needed career so the demand is increasing and you should be able to find a job if you cannot land a job pharmacy is also a career that allows you to start your own business. I plan to open my own pharmacy once I become more experienced in the field. You must got to school for 6 years before you can become a pharmacists. Considering the fact that you will graduate from a 4 year college between the ages of and you will graduate from a pharmacy school between the ages of you could going to school for 6 years is worth it money wise.
