or in the past (happened then).

Digging a hole takes a while so the past continuous form is best.

10. Perfect form The perfect form of the past tense suggests that
a past action is still affecting the present.

I finished the book and it is still finished.

11. Perfect Form
The perfect form is created by using the present or past tense of ‘have’ with the past participle of the verb.
Mr Fox has tricked the farmers.
Mrs Bean has left poison for the rats.
They have prepared a feast.

13. Using Perfect Form in Your Story
The perfect form is for writing about things that happened in the past
which still affect the present.
This makes it perfect for a final sentence in a story.
The rabbit family have kept their promise every day since then.
The squirrel has lived happily in the tree for many years.
The farmer has remembered his lesson to this day.
We made a promise in the past and we are still keeping it today.
