Burnout syndrome in mental health professionals: psychiatric hospital setting Irena Velimirović, MA1; Mirta Vranko, MA1; Martina Ferić,PhD2; Tena Ormuž, MA 1University hospital for psychiatry Vrapče, Zagreb; 2 University of Zagreb, Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences Abstract Methods and Materials The aim of the project was to determent the level of stress in professionals working in psychiatric hospital, as well as to explore possible differences in stress level regarding the different characteristic of participants as sex, level of education, marital status, working hours etc. Burnout syndrome has been clinically characterised by a series of three subtypes: frenetic, underchallenged, and worn-out, with reference to coping strategies for stress and frustration at work with different degrees of dedication The aims of this poster is to explore level of stress in professionals working in psychiatric hospital and its different departments, and explore difference in three burnout subtypes – Frenetic, Under-challenged and Worn-out – regarding the sex of participants and level of education. The Burnout Clinical Subtypes Questionnaire was used. "Burnout Clinical Subtype Questionnaire" (BCSQ-12), comprising the dimensions of overload, lack of development and neglect, is proposed as a brief means of identifying the different ways this disorder is manifested. Study was conducted from July to December 2014, and from April to May The sample of 141 participants who work in mental health professional are 39.9% male and 68.1% female, average age of years. SPSS T test for independent sample has been used Chart 1. Level of education Discussion The Burnout Clinical Subtypes Questionnaire Results The results show that there is no significant differences regarding the sex of correspondent and there is significant differences regarding the level of education. Results showed following: there is no significant differences in subscale Frenetic regarding the level of education; participants with lower level of education have higher result in subscale Under-challenged; participantts with the lowers level of education have the highest result on subscale Worn-out followed by participant with graduate level; the lower results in this subscale have participants with PhD level of education. The „frenetic“ type describes involved and ambitious subjects who sacrifice their health and personal lives for their jobes The „underchallenged“ type describes indifferent and bored workers who fail to find personal development in their jobs The „worn-out“ type describes neglectful subjects who feel they hav e little controlover results and whose efforts go unacknowledged BSCQ – 12 This questionnaire consists of 12 items equally distributed between the dimensions of 'overload' (e.g. "I overlook my own needs to fulfil work demands"), 'lack of development' (e.g. "My work doesn't offer me opportunities to develop my abilities") and 'neglect' (e.g. "When things at work don't turn out as well as they should, I stop trying"). Subjects had to indicate their degree of agreement with each of the statements presented according to a Likert-type scale with 7 response options, scored from 1 (totally disagree) to 7 (totally agree). Conclusions This questionnaire can be a very useful instrument for future evaluation and designing interventions and different treatment strategies for subtypes of burnout. Instrument should be used in other fields of mental heald and with other proffessionals Instrument can be used as "screener" for the needs of mental healt stuff. Implication and recommendations for the proffesion: soft skills training for the lower educated staff, empoverment and building of coping strategies. Emotional support to workers through positive feedback and discussions about the positive aspect of the job. Table 1.
