3. Paints were made by mixing minerals such as iron and charcoal with animal fat. The paint was then applied with fingers and brushes, and by being blown from the mouth.

What we do know is that these paintings are protected deep inside caves. They were not painted in the mouth of the caves where it would be easier to paint.
