Satan is referred to as “prince of this world” – John 12:31
“…the whole world is under the control of the evil one.” – 1 John 5:19
“Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” – 1 Peter 5:8
“Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” – Ephesians 6:11-12

But we are assaulted by the system around us and we have tendencies to fall to that assault because of our remaining flesh, our fallenness which we possess until we receive our heavenly inheritance and leave this world.

Hebrews 4:12 - For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
