Philosophy Tahoma Junior High Track Statement of Philosophy:
To provide an environment of healthy competition, fun, and positive relationships, while learning the value of life-long fitness.

Tahoma Track Web Site Look for “Tahoma Athletics” on the main page of the Tahoma School District website. 7/8 Track – in the list of team web sites. The site contains team and parent announcements, documents, team stats, team records, schedule and much more.

Team/League Results All league results (league and individual) times, heights, and distances will posted on You will need to click on the State of Washington and find Tahoma Junior High and/or Kent/Tahoma League. Athletes will eventually be able to track their results for multiple years. School records, league records, league standings will posted on the track website.

Practices/Meets Home meets are at Tahoma Junior High.
All practices will be at Tahoma Junior High. Practice everyday except for a no school days and half days. 8th graders will begin practice at 3:20. We expect the 8th graders to stay in one after school in a designated area. 7th graders will practice from their arrival to 5pm. Home meets are at Tahoma Junior High. Field events start at 3:30 and running events begin at 3:45. Buses will take kids to away meets, but there is no bus home. You will need to arrange transportation. Finals at French Field

Track Gear All participants will be checked out race uniforms for meets. Participants should have their own sweats, training shoes and spikes, if appropriate. Participants should come prepared to practice in any weather condition. Check the uniforms for stickers when washing. Team sweatshirt/sweatpants/t-shirts are not required.

Policies & Rules Academic Probation
1. Below 2.0 and/or failed a class on the last report card – On probation until next report card 2. Academic Probation a. Grades checked every two weeks. b. Drop below 2.0 and/or receive an F – YOU ARE INELIGIBLE FOR GAMES UNTIL ABOVE THE STANDARD

Practice – Athletes are expected to be at all practices Injuries – Let coaches know before going home Playing time philosophy “The best athletes participate in scoring situations” - coaches decisions Athletes should be able to find a least one event they can participate in for each meet Unlimited heats for all home meets

Practice Requirements
8 practices are needed in order to compete in a meet. Athletes are expected to attend practice everyday unless not at school due to illness. An absence is only excused with a written note signed by a parent/guardian that must be given to a coach. 1st unexcused absence = Miss next meet 2nd unexcused absence = Miss next meet and conference with coach 3rd unexcused absence = Dismissal from team

General Information and Team Policies
Injuries – Let coaches know immediately after you suffer ANY kind of injury Head Injuries –Athletes who show signs of having a concussion will not be allowed to return to play. Some examples of signs & symptoms reported by athletes: Headache Nausea Dizziness Double vision or dizziness Sensitivity to light or noise Feeling sluggish Feeling foggy or groggy Concentration or memory problems Confusion

Parent/Coach Communication
Appreciate that your focus is on your child – the coaches focus must be on all members of the team. Coaches Decisions Events athletes will be allowed to participate in Team Strategy Matters concerning other student- athletes

Release your child to the sport
Encourage your kids to take ownership and learn the skills (which include…commitment, leadership, teamwork, effort, handling adversity, handling success, and communication) that will benefit them long after they’re done. Make sure you have signed in to verify attendance at the meeting

Transportation 7th graders will be bused to the junior high every practice All athletes will be bused to all track meets, but there will be no buses bringing athletes home. Parents, please make arrangements to have your child picked up at every meet and practice. Track coaches are required to stay until every athlete is picked up! If your child is the last picked up multiple times, they maybe asked to leave the team.
