8. Updating the EITI Standard
The 2013 EITI Standard was updated by the 2016 EITI Standard when it formally launched at the EITI Global Conference in Lima late in February 2016.
Key Changes:
Identifies Beneficial ownership, describes the ‘natural’ person(s) who, directly or indirectly, ultimately own(s) or control(s) a corporate entity, a license or other property.
Must disclose Identity of those that own and profit from extractive activities. All countries must ensure that the companies that bid for, operate or invest in extractive projects declare who their beneficial owners are. The requirement will take effect as of January 1, 2020, giving countries some time to undertake the necessary preparations. 

9. Updating the EITI Standard (Cont’d)
Mainstreaming
Where there is routine disclosure of the data required by the EITI Standard in requisite detail, and that the financial data is subject to credible, independent audit, applying international standards, the multi-stakeholder group may seek Board approval to mainstream EITI implementation in accordance with the ‘Agreed upon procedure for mainstreamed disclosures’.
Validation
The bar for achieving compliance has not changed in the updated EITI Standard; however the assessment will to a greater extent take into account the diversity in implementing country membership, recognize efforts to go beyond the minimum requirements and incentivize continuous improvements in implementation.
Validation for the United States will take place in April 2018.

10. 2017 USEITI Reporting Requirements
Government, Civil Society, and Industry met in Denver on January 11, 2017 to discuss 2017 Reporting.
Which companies are being asked to report?
The MSG is to decide at the February 1-2 MSG Meeting. For the 2016 report, the materiality threshold was set at companies with payments greater than $37.5 million
What commodities are included within the scope of the USEITI Report?
Oil, Gas (including NGLs), Coal, Geothermal, Onshore & Offshore Renewables, Other Leasable Minerals, Non-Fuel Minerals, and Other1 (as reported to ONRR)
Besides those collected by ONRR, what other government revenues are part of the USEITI Report?
Within DOI, the reporting will include revenues reported to BLM, OSMRE, and ONRR
Outside of DOI, the reporting will include corporate tax payments made to the Internal Revenue Service
What revenue types are included for each of the DOI entities?
BLM: Bonuses and first year rents, permit fees, and renewable collections
OSMRE: AML fees including audits and civil penalties (including late charges)
ONRR: Bonuses, rents, royalties, other revenues1, offshore inspection fees, and civil penalties
1 All other revenue (not associated with the Royalties, Rents, or Bonuses revenue streams)
