11 LBUSD Lessons Learned All components of Lab Day should focus on Principal Supervisors’ skill development and the building of “systemness” across Principal Supervisors (e.g. norming, calibration) All Principal Supervisors should be challenged to fully engage in the Lab Day through intentionally designed components (e.g. individual reflection, contribution to problem-solving) The Lab Day should represent a space for Principal Supervisors to test their working knowledge, be vulnerable in the own development and stretch themselves as learners (e.g. peer to peer feedback) Kelly

Provide principal supervisors and principal coaches with an authentic opportunity to reflect on their work; Calibrate and enhance their coaching skills in service to principals; and Contribute to a consistent approach to principal supervision across the district.

17 Prince George’s County Lab Day –Components
Opening School Walkthrough and Coaching Practice Debrief Professional Development The purpose of the opening session is to provoke principal supervisors and principal coaches to consider a principal with similar strengths/challenges who he/she works with to have in mind during the Lab Day. The opening ends with a focus question for the classroom visit. Participants will gain a greater understanding of the Area Office and school’s data journey. The purpose of this component of the Lab Day is for principal supervisors to practice coaching a principal following each classroom visit. Throughout the visits the visitors are expected to raise questions as well as notice patterns in teaching and learning The purpose of this component is to assist the host principal supervisor in considering how to best support the host school and to consider other schools in the district that are in need of the same support. To contribute to a consistent approach to principal supervision across the district.
