3 1. WHAT IS CARNIVAL? a festive season before Lent
Lent = Fastenzeit mockery = Spott a festive season before Lent February or early March puplic celebrations and/or parade combining some elements of a circus, masks and a puplic street party wearing masks and costumes to lose the everyday individuality mockery of authorities, social satire, grotesque bodys, abusive language, degrading acts  a general reversal of erveryday rules and norms
