Transitions to, through and beyond high school Skill Development (transferrable, learning, activity- specific, subject-related) Workshops: Stress & Well-being Effective Study Skills Digital & Social Responsibility Self-exploration
5
How do I Prevent Stress? Share your feelings and thoughts with someone you trust. Eat healthy Get plenty of sleep Avoid overloading extra-curricular and social activities Exercise regularly Divide large tasks into smaller chunks Set realistic expectations for yourself Create a calendar for your school work and activities Unplug
6
How do you manage your stress?
7
How do I manage stress when it happens?
Relaxation exercises are helpful, such as slow and deep breathing (4, 7, 8), stretching the body. Take a break from the situation. Activities like listening to music, talking to a friend, drawing, writing, exercising or spending time with a pet can reduce stress. Speak to a family member, friend or teacher/guidance that you trust and that will listen to and support you. Use positive self-talk (e.g. I can do this. I’ve done this successfully before, I am proud of myself because…).
8
HOW TO STUDY…WHAT DO I DO?
Read your notes and mark them up Take notes from the textbook Make Flash Cards Study with a friend or a small group Do practice problems Make up your own questions and answer them Anything else that works for you
9
WHAT ARE BEST TIME MANAGEMENT PRACTICES?
Review what is coming up each week and schedule homework time, study time, and personal time Set a consistent study time for each day and establish a routine (it takes three weeks to establish a habit) Keep track of your plan on a calendar, agenda or electronic device Schedule time for breaks

STAY SAFE & SMART ONLINE
STRANGER DANGER Going on the Internet is like going out on Halloween, everyone’s identity is hidden. If you’re threatened, tell a trusted friend or adult. BE RESPECTFUL Be as respectful to those you engage with online, as you would to them in real life. Don’t participate in online bullying. Help those in need. WATCH YOUR TRACKS Manage your privacy and help others protect theirs. Your online activity is tracked. What you post today, will be around forever. Be remembered for your positive contributions to society.
