2 Types of Glaciers Alpine/Valley Glaciers Continental Glaciers

3 Alpine/Valley Glaciers
Built up snow and ice in mountain valleys

4 Alpine/Valley Glacier

5 Yosemite Valley, Ca……..Before glaciers

6 Yosemite Valley, Ca……..Before glaciers

7 Alpine Glacier Features
Arête – a thin crest of rock left after two adjacent glaciers have worn a long sharp ridge into the rock Horn – 3 or more arêtes forming a sharp peak. Moraine (Medial, Lateral, Terminal) – accumulation of rock and soil at the edges of a glacier. Cirque – bowl-shaped depression left over from a glacier. Fiord - where glaciers meet an ocean or sea. Tarn – a mountain lake or pool formed from a glacier. Found usually inside a cirque.
