12 Frequently Asked Questions
Is it advisable to have Mrs. O’Connor or one of the NHS officers look over my candidate form? Am I required a certain number of activities in each component of the candidate form? YES. We are more than willing to help students with their forms. NO. However, you do need to demonstrate activity in school, comm., & leadership. Leaving an entire component blank is not very promising in terms of being selected for membership

13 Frequently Asked Questions What are reasons for students not to be selected for membership into National Honor Society? Some students are really active in one school or community activity but not diverse in their service. Citizenship and Character Obviously, if the student does not demonstrate participation in school and community activities and leadership ability. If the student has had discipline issues at school or in the community.

14 Faculty Council Response
If you are so involved with one activity, what will you bring to NHS This is a student led organization with self starters where every one is valuable to the organization It gives the appearance that you do not have the time nor the interest to participate in the very service and leadership activities that form the foundation of NHS If the student has had discipline issues at school or in the community how can they meet the honor criteria in National Honor Society

15 CSHS Applicant It is the responsibility of the student to listen for all information during the candidate process If any extenuating circumstances arise, it is the student’s responsibility to contact the advisor Mrs. O’Connor, in room Prospective members are encouraged to keep in mind that according to the National Association of Secondary School Principals (the groups that governs NHS) admission to membership is a bestowed honor, not a due process right.
