19 Part Interaction The way the electric engraver pencil’s parts interact is simple, yet efficient. The screws and binding ring hold together the two frames. The fames house the internal parts and function. The power switch is located on the outside of the frame and connects/ disconnects the copper strips that control the flow of electricity that runs to the motor from the power outlet. The copper strips are attached to the wire that is connected to the motor. The motor is held in place by the motor frame which contacts the engraver piece that sticks out at the front of the engraver. And finally, the adjustment knob is connect to the motor frame holder, which controls the engraver piece’s vibration.

20 Good and Bad Features Function:
Form: According to reviews and analyses on this, the way the electric pencil engraver is shaped, it makes it easier for you to grip, as it is shaped for your hand, and it is small enough to do so comfortably. It has as be acclaimed to be small enough to be stored or kept around conveniently. There are not many negative things that can be said about is form other than it being oblong might make it difficult to store with more geometric tools and appliances. Function: According to a detailed analysis, the function of the electric pencil engraver is to mark pieces in relation of each other when dismantling unfamiliar pieces of machinery. This can help avoid confusion and keep things in order while re-assembling. The only bad thing about the function is that the engraving is permanent, so use with caution.

21 What Has Caused The Product to Succeed or Fail?
For what this product is intended for, which is engraving into hard surfaces, it succeeds. It has a very simple purpose, so unless it doesn’t work at all, it will be able to fully carry out its function. The main thing that we have found while searching for issues with its success is that given extensive use, some of the pieces are susceptible to breakage. This is the only point where this product would fail at being able to engrave pieces.

22 Are the Materials Used Appropriate?
The materials that were used to construct the electric pencil engraver were very appropriate for what they were used for. First of all, there were very few different materials used throughout the engraver. Some of the materials used composed multiple different parts. Also, the plastic and rubber, being the most used materials, were very inexpensive yet they were able to completely fulfill their functions. Finally, on the note of expense, all the materials used came out to be about 1/10 of the price they were sold for, meaning they were definitely profiting of this product, asserting that they chose appropriate materials.

23 What Manufacturing Process Was Used?
Since Wen Co. is no longer around there is no actual conformation on the exact way that this product was manufactured, but according to multiple sources reviewing this product it can safely be said that the majority of the product, the frame, was made by injection molding. Injection molding is the process where parts are produced by injecting material (plastic in this case) into a mold. The metallic and rubber components of the product were also made using this same process, since it is ideal to create in a mass scale, the same part over and over again. Since the product comes completely assembled, many reviewers of this product have determined that after the product’s components were molded, they were put on an assembly line and put together piece by piece (since there are very few pieces composing this product) until it was finished and ready for shipping out for retailing.

24 Estimated Cost of Product
(Material Prices Based On Current Values) ABS Plastic (the most common type of manufacturing plastic): $1.49 Carbon Steel (easily molded, widely available, durable, inexpensive):$0.40 Rubber (widely available, easily molded):$0.43 Copper (commonly used in wire, inexpensive):$0.02 Total Estimated Cost:$2.34
