Students should put their objects into the bag they gathered Monday and Tuesday night. Bags should be numbered 1-10 (or the total number of groups). Distribute the graphic organizer. Groups pass the bags clockwise and take several minutes to unpack them, make note of the objects and possible character traits, and come up with a guess as to which character that bag represents. Require each group member to take turns writing down the objects and their guesses so everyone has the responsibility to write something down. After all groups have had time with each bag, begin with number one and have each group share the character they had and their reasons for including each item. This sharing should foster lively discussion about each character and demonstrate both the students’ analysis of the characters and their understanding of the text as a whole. Summarizer: four box synectics. Have students call out four objects (items found in a kitchen, things found at an amusement park, etc.). Distribute the graphic organizer; or on a sheet of plain paper, they should draw a line down the middle each way, dividing the paper into four equal sections. They should write the four objects in each section of the paper. Lastly, they need to work with their group to write a sentence for each section _____________ (character’s name) is like a ____________________ (object) because __________________________. Have each group share the sentence they like best at the end of the period.
