1 How to teach Speaking What kind of speaking should students do?
We should be clear that we are speaking not about the controlled speaking activities ( language practices) where students practice grammar sentences or particular function which has to do with Study. The kind of speaking we are speaking about is always in Activate exercises. In other words, the students will use any and all language to perform some kind of oral task.

2 How to teach Speaking Why encourage students to do speaking tasks?
There are three basic reasons: Rehearsal – getting students to have a free discussion which gives them a chance to rehearse having discussions outside the classroom. it is a way for students to ‘get a feel ‘ of what communicating in a foreign language really feels like. Feedback – speaking tasks where students are trying to use all and any language they know provides feedback for both the teacher and students. Teachers will find out that how well their class is doing and what language problem they are facing. Students will find out how easy they will find particular kind of speaking and what they need to do in order to improve. Speaking activities give students enormous confidence and satisfaction and with the teacher as a guide they can be encouraged to go into further study.

3 How to teach Speaking Engagement – good speaking can and should be highly motivating if all students are participating fully and if the teacher has set up the activity properly. Many speaking tasks ( role - playing, discussion, problem - solving ) are very enjoyable for students.

4 How to teach Speaking How should teachers correct speaking?
It is important for teachers to correct mistakes during speaking activities in a different way from the mistakes which are made during a Study exercises. When students are repeating sentences in grammar, pronunciation, phonetic and sound exercises the teacher will often correct immediately, every time there is a problem. However, if a student is involved in a passionate discussion about “Smoking” the interruption of the student by the teacher means destroying the purpose of speaking activity. We should first listen to the activity and write some notes or memorize the correction in order to say at the end of activity or task.

5 How to teach Speaking Sometimes some important mistakes should be written on the board so all the students discuss and some other minor ones should be neglected. There are a lot of teachers who say that they correct students immediately but in this case we as teachers should have a very good relationship between students and teacher.

6 How to teach Speaking What should teachers do during the speaking activities? Some teachers get very involved with their students during a speaking activity and they want to join too. There is nothing wrong with teachers getting involved provided they do not start do dominate. Although it is probably better stand back so that you as a teacher can watch and listen to what is going on. Sometimes, teachers will have to intervene in some way if the activity is not going smoothly. Prompting is often necessary but as with correction, teachers should do it sympathetically and sensitively.

7 How to teach Speaking How do speaking activities fit in ESA?
1.The teacher gets students interested in the topic 2. The students do the task while the teacher watches and listens and 3. They then study any language issues that the teacher has identified as being problematic. It may become clear that students have not been able to use some language that would have been helpful during Activate stage. The problem is that teachers think that if once a piece of language has been studied, good speaking activity will immediately take place and that students should be ready to use it.
