2 Our Battles - Depression
King Solomon – 950 BC Asked God for wisdom – and received much more! Wrote many proverbs and books - including Ecclesiastes… Bible-Loving Bible-Loving

3 Ecclesiastes 4 Again I (King Solomon) looked and saw
all the oppression that was taking place under the sun: I saw the tears of the oppressed— and they have no comforter; power was on the side of their oppressors— and they have no comforter. And I declared that the dead, who had already died, are happier than the living, who are still alive. But better than both is the one who has never been born, who has not seen the evil that is done under the sun.

5 Our Battles - Depression
Elijah – the prophet – 850 BC Performed many miracles! Became depressed after receiving death threats. Bible-Loving Bible-Loving

6 1 Kings 19 Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there, while he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness. He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, LORD,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.” Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep. All at once an angel touched him and said, “Get up and eat.” He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again.

7 1 Kings 19 The angel of the LORD came back a second time and touched him and said, “Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.” So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he travelled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. There he went into a cave and spent the night. And the word of the LORD came to him: “What are you doing here, Elijah?” He replied, “I have been very zealous for the LORD God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.”

8 1 Kings 19 The LORD said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper…

12 Our Battles - Depression
Many factors: Pressure to provide Not good enough Limited resources, money, time Fear of failure Past hurts and failures Persistent illness Anxiety Bible-Loving Bible-Loving

13 Proverbs 12:25 Philippians 4: 6-7 1 Peter 5: 6-7
Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up. Philippians 4: 6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 1 Peter 5: 6-7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

14 Our Battles - Depression
The battle against depression is a battle for the control of our mind. To see things as we (or the world) sees - or to believe and see things as God sees. Bible-Loving Bible-Loving

15 Romans 2:12 Do not conform to the pattern of this world,
but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
