3 Owning the issue Tarmac’s approach is to manage risk across whole journey, ‘beyond the site’ Safety and Health Transport Manager and new extended team: Focus on transport related incidents Supporting and vehicle safety through Driving Safety initiative Clear boundaries and responsibilities Gets involved in every incident involving a vehicle to review the investigation, communicate lessons learnt and use this to focus improvements Working with our insurers to understand not only our own incidents but those across the industry and what we can do to reduce incidents

4 Equipment now standard
All CLOCS equipment fitted as standard on new vehicles (since mid 2013) Side under runs on all vehicles (retrofitted nationally) Side sensors and audible alerts (retrofitted nationally) All round cameras (all vehicles since mid 2014 plus retrofits) Now reviewing next generation collision avoidance systems All supported with driver training covering Vulnerable Users

Phone system in cabs that can’t be answered whilst ignition switched on

What’s the benefit? We have seen a reduction in blameworthy road incidents Average cost of claims has reduced by c.20% Fewer 50/50 claims and payouts Insurance premiums reduced by 10% Management time spent on more pro active safety management Contract Hauliers and employed drivers feel better protected and informed Recognised by customers as an operator with strong safety culture Contracts won on back of safety standards Transport Managers can sleep at night!!
