2. Ud. and Uds. commands What are they?
We use Ud and Uds commands (formal) when we want to tell someone what (or what not) to do
Remember the Ud is the formal you that we use with older people, ones we don’t know, or people who should be shown respect. Uds is used for the plural you – a group of people.
Everyone take out your book (uds)
Jorge and Susana, don’t use red ink.
Sit down, Mr. Lopez (Ud)
Don’t worry, Ms. Martinez.

3. Ud and Uds commands How do we conjugate them?
1 – conjugate to the Yo (#1) form in the present tense
Poner = pongo
2- Drop the “O”
Pong
3-Flip flop the ending
-er and –ir verbs get A or AN and –ar verbs get E or EN
Poner = ponga for Ud. and pongan for Uds.
Simply put “No” in front of the verb when it’s a negative command
No pongan = don’t put

Verbs that end in –gar
G changes to GU  pague
verbs that end in –car
C changes to QU  saque
Verbs that end in –zar
Z changes to C  empiece
- verbs that end in –ger or –gir
G changes to J  recoja
-verbs that end in –guir
Drop the U  seguir = siga
Totally irregular
ir = vaya
Saber = sepa
Ser = sea

5. Ud and Uds commands What do I do with reflexives? Positive commands
Attach the reflexive pronoun “se” to the end of the command
Bañarse = báñese
Irse = váyanse
Notice that these require you to add an accent. Cover up the reflexive and go back 2 vowels.
Negative commands
Put the “se” between the no and the verb
No se bañe
No se vayan

Put the pronoun(s) between the NO and the verb
No lo haga

No me los de
* Remember that only criminals “le lo” and only Eric Clapton sings “le la” so you will need to change to “se” when both start with L.
