1 BEN FRANKLIN: WRITER By: Hannah Krane

2 Ben was a printer by trade, father intended for him to be a clergyman, but that required years of schooling. Ben was a writer, and spokesperson for the 7 colonies. He was proud of his working class roots and became a successful newspaper editor and printer in Philadelphia. Ben would often write in a different name, because it would make him feel like he could write more freely.

3 Poor Richards Almanac In 1773 Ben started to publish the “poor Richards almanac” under the pseudonym Richard Saunders. This book got him very rich.

4 Father Abrahams Sermon
Also known as the way to wealth. It is a collection of adages and advice presented in “Poor Richards almanac” during its first 25 years of publication, organized into a speech given by "Father Abraham" to a group of people.

Some phrases from the almanac quoted in "The Way to Wealth" include: "There are no gains, without pains" "One today is worth two tomorrows" "A life of leisure and a life of laziness are two things" "Get what you can, and what you get hold" "Sloth, like rust, consumes faster than labor wears, while the used key is always bright" "Have you somewhat to do tomorrow, do it today" "The eye of a master will do more work than both his hands" "Early to bed, and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise"

6 His autobiography After much persuasion, Ben finally was convinced to write his own book, more than 775,000 have been sold so far and they are still selling.
