2 Measles Measles is best known for causing a rash in childhood, but measles can affect other parts of the body and sometimes occurs in adults.

3 Types of measles 1) Rubeola: The rubeola virus causes "red measles," also known as "hard measles” . 2) Rubella:The rubella virus causes "German measles," also known as "three-day measles

4 Causative agent Measels is caused by an RNA paramyxovirus. The infection is transferred from infected secretions of the nose, throat and the respiratory tract, during the prodromal period or the early stages of rash.

5 How can produce the disease:
Both the rubeola and rubella viruses are spread through the respiratory route. They are contagious through coughing and sneezing. As a result, it can spread rapidly in a susceptible population.

6 Symptoms: Fever A run-down feeling Cough Red eyes (conjunctivitis)
Runny nose Loss of appetite

7 Treatment Get plenty of rest.
Sponge baths with lukewarm water may reduce discomfort due to fever. Drink plenty of fluids to help avoid dehydration. A humidifier or vaporizer may ease the cough.

8 Prevention Measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine is used for this diseases. The vaccine should not be used in people with egg allergies.

9 Prevention Doctors usually give the first dose of the measles immunization at months of age. Doctors give a second dose of the immunization when the child is 4 to 6 years old.
