26 November 2007 Further Energy Harvesting wireless sensors could include an on-board supercap and energy management circuitry/software An example may be that cabin temperature is checked every 10 seconds by the sensor and only transmits an average of every 15 minutes (because transmission does not take place unless there is a change in temperature for example) then a supercap can power the sensor for approximately 24 hours if supercap has been fully charged say in 3 hours using solar cells and cabin lighting. Energy harvesting radio network architecture can differ from architecture. Information transfers are typically infrequent and it is sometimes beneficial for transmitted information to be received by several networked nodes at the same time for reliability purposes and an energy harvesting radio must be able to rapidly wake up from deep sleep when there is something to transmit then fall back asleep again.
