5 Classifying Direct and Inverse Variation
When two variables x and y show direct variation when y = ax for some nonzero constant a. Another type of variation is called inverse variation.

6 Classifying Equations

7 You Try Tell whether x and y show direct variation, inverse variation, or neither.

8 Classify Data

10 Writing Inverse Variation Equations
The variables x and y vary inversely, and y = 4 when x = 3. Write an equation that relates x and y. Then find y when x = −2.

12 Bellwork The variables x and y vary inversely. Use the given values to write an equation relating x and y. Then find y when x = 3.

25 Slant Asymptotes Finding Slant Asymptotes of Rational Functions.
A slant (oblique) asymptote occurs when the polynomial in the numerator is a higher degree than the polynomial in the denominator. To find the slant asymptote you must divide the numerator by the denominator using either long division or synthetic division.

26 Graph Rational function with slant Asymptote.
