4 Guidelines for IEEE-SA Meetings
All IEEE-SA standards meetings shall be conducted in compliance with all applicable laws, including antitrust and competition laws. Don’t discuss the interpretation, validity, or essentiality of patents/patent claims. Don’t discuss specific license rates, terms, or conditions. Relative costs, including licensing costs of essential patent claims, of different technical approaches may be discussed in standards development meetings. Technical considerations remain primary focus Don’t discuss or engage in the fixing of product prices, allocation of customers, or division of sales markets. Don’t discuss the status or substance of ongoing or threatened litigation. Don’t be silent if inappropriate topics are discussed… do formally object. If you have questions, contact the IEEE-SA Standards Board Patent Committee Administrator at or visit See IEEE-SA Standards Board Operations Manual, clause and “Promoting Competition and Innovation: What You Need to Know about the IEEE Standards Association's Antitrust and Competition Policy” for more details. This slide set is available at March 2015 IEEE-SA Standards Board Patent Committee

5 Administration Attendance take on IMAT Web page Mailing list
Reciprocal rights for most WGs Web page Mailing list (voters list) Document archive IEEE 802 announcement reflector, Send to with no subject and with the following 2 lines appearing first in the body of the message Subscribe stds-802-all end Tim Godfrey, EPRI

6 Monday: 802.24 TAG Approve May minutes TAG Action Items from March:
TAG Action Items from March: Wael: Initiate Liaison with Wi-Fi Alliance IoT TG Tim– plan additional meeting slot for 24.2 in Berlin to discuss the P2413 draft. Follow up by to 24.2 leadership: Invite automotive tutorial team to participate. Tim: Wireless Matrix: Coordinate with to find spectral efficiency details ( exchange with Osama) Tim Godfrey, EPRI

7 Coordination with Industry Connections:
Regularly examine (or liaison with) IC Committee to determine if we want to be involved with any existing IC activities. Plan of action: Check in by regularly (before plenary meetings) on status with the IC Committee Activity in Berlin: Tuesday Evening 19:00 IEEE 802 Network Enhancements Industry Connections Activity Tim Godfrey, EPRI

8 Publicizing White Paper Releases
Develop procedure for back end of white papers – coordinate with Jonathan Goldberg Action to take up in July – propose a draft process, and get agreement from IEEE Press Releases Standards association newsletter External press releases Emulate what 802.1, are doing External publications, conferences, etc Liaison reports to WGs Include relevant details from external liaisons Expand liaisons to and 802.3 Tim Godfrey, EPRI

9 Monday Smart Grid TG Tim Godfrey, EPRI

10 ITU and Radio Regulatory Items
No regulatory items related to currently known. Discussion Should there be new bands with new types of licensing models? Would be a good question for to discuss. Tim Godfrey, EPRI

11 IEEE Smart Grid Technical Activities Committee
Since May I have joined the committee Chaired by Stefano Galli From Stefano: “Within the IEEE Smart Grid Technical Activities  Committee, we are writing a White paper on smart metering. The focus of this white paper will be on the deployed comms standards, from power line, to wireless cellular to meshed networking to whatever…” Tim Godfrey, EPRI

12 Finalize PAP2 Wireless Matrix
Current Status: Latest version r6 SEPA/SGIP Study Group has been formed for Matrix update will provide updated data for 802 standards Will reach out to other standards’ contributors for any updates Ultimately, will be forwarded to NIST as an updated addendum to NISTIR 7761 r1 Tim Godfrey, EPRI

13 Notes on Editing Y23: Need to determine spectral efficiency and formula Assigned to Osama Aboul Magd in Need to verify peak vs channel (MAC) data rates for and columns Clint P, Apurva M Tim Godfrey, EPRI

14 SEPA/SGIP update WG Membership currently Tim Godfrey EPRI
Ron Cunningham AEP Doug Gray TCS Bill Godwin Duke Energy Matt Gilmore Itron Nada Golmie NIST Tim Godfrey, EPRI

15 TSN Utility Use Cases Preparation for Wednesday Joint Meeting
Draft current version: r3 Note: Wednesday meeting slot is with TSN only No meeting in this room Tim Godfrey, EPRI

16 Future Opportunities Tracking
At plenary meetings – review upcoming needs and opportunities for projects. Tim Godfrey, EPRI

17 Future Opportunities Tracking (1)
white paper on IoT and P2413? Maybe more towards completion of P2413? Agnostic to underlying communications, but applicable to all 802 standards. Highlight the relationship between P2413 and 802 standards. Tim Godfrey, EPRI

18 Future Opportunities Tracking (2)
ULI Eventually, we can explain how it relates to the rest of 802, and better integration. Well defined ways of integrating. Take this up when there is a draft s SMR – spectrum management resources Can provide an input with respect to Smart Grid or IoT? IEC 65C WG 17 dealing with coexistence management and spectrum policy ETSI TCRRS reconfigurable radio systems ETSI TCERM WG 41 – defining a central coordination point to handle spectrum. Sharing and increasing coexistence and providing better QoS Coordinate with Action Plan: Coordinate with ULI initiative 4s resource management is defined, but now how they are used White paper could cover how adaptation and resource management are accomplished. Including use of metrics for management. Tim Godfrey, EPRI

19 Future Opportunities Tracking (3)
Are there any new utility industry activities or organizations that could benefit from a liaison to ? Useful Output: Identify the use cases that the standards serve, and provide them to the industry. That can then define who is an appropriate liaison Need to educate and inform liaisons to gather needs and requirements with respect to IEEE 802 projects. Identify the tools we have available, and present the available toolbox. Tim Godfrey, EPRI

20 Future Opportunities Tracking (4)
March 2017 Discussion on IG DEP Explore collaboration with 802.3 Explore collaboration with Consider Licensed spectrum. Tim Godfrey, EPRI

21 Other Future Opportunities
Monitor the LPWAN IG in to see where it goes (and links to IETF) Tim Godfrey, EPRI
