3 Bill of Rights overview
Proposed by Anti-federalists James Madison wrote them in 1791 First 10 amendments are called the Bill of Rights

4 1st Amendment

5 2nd Amendment We are allowed to own and carry guns for protection

6 3rd Amendment We do not have to house soldiers ???

7 4th Amendment No one can search your things without good reason

8 5th Amendment You do not have to speak against yourself in the court of law Why might this be helpful?

9 6th Amendment A quick, public trial with a jury of your peers

10 7th Amendment Right to a jury in a civil case as well

11 8th Amendment No punishment too severe or strong

12 9th Amendment We have other rights not listed in the Constitution

13 10th Amendment Any powers not listed in the Constitution belong to the people

14 Put it into practice! Identify which amendment is being violated in each of the 6 scenarios Don’t forget to explain why you chose that amendment

16 Anti-federalists wanted a Bill of Rights to ensure basic rights for citizens, those that were not specifically mentioned in the text of the original Constitution. How did the Bill of Rights achieve this? Was the Bill of Rights necessary? Explain.
