3 We are Jesus’ Witnesses
Acts 1:1-5 – Jesus commanded His disciples to wait for the Holy Spirit Acts 1:1-2 – Luke’s first book told what Jesus taught and did. Acts 1:3-5 – Jesus commanded His disciples to wait for God to give them His Spirit. Acts 1:6-11 – Jesus told His disciples they would be His Witnesses Acts 1:6-8 – Jesus focused His disciples on their task, which was to be His witnesses. Acts 1:9-11 – Jesus will one day return.

5 Wait for the Holy Spirit
Acts 1:1-2 – Jesus commanded His disciples to wait for the Holy Spirit Acts 1:1 – Luke’s first book told what Jesus taught and did. Acts 1:2 – Jesus gave commandments to His disciples before being taken to heaven.

6 Wait for the Holy Spirit
Acts 1:3-5 – Jesus commanded His disciples to wait for God to give them the Holy Spirit Acts 1:3 – Jesus showed Himself to His disciples for 40 days after His resurrection. Acts 1:4-5 – Jesus told His disciples to wait at Jerusalem until God gave them the Holy Spirit.

8 Be My Witnesses Acts 1:6-8 – Jesus told His disciples that they would be His witnesses Acts 1:6 – Jesus’ disciples were expecting Jesus to restore the Kingdom Acts 1:7-8 – Jesus told them that their work was to be His witnesses

9 Be My Witnesses Acts 1:6 – Jesus’ disciples were expecting Jesus to restore the Kingdom What kingdom? The kingdom of Israel – God had promised that David’s line would reign over the future kingdom. Why did they expect this? Jesus had been taking to them about the kingdom of God. They knew He was the promised king. So, it made sense.

10 Be My Witnesses Acts 1:7 – Jesus needed to refocus His disciples
It is not for you to know While we can understand their interest, Jesus was clear they did not need to know what they were asking about. The Father has put in His own authority God the Father, alone, has decided the timing of Jesus’ return and the kingdom He will set up.

11 Be My Witnesses Acts 1:8 – Jesus’ task for His disciples
You shall receive power When the Holy Spirit has come upon you This explains why they needed to wait in Jerusalem.

12 Be My Witnesses Acts 1:8 – Jesus’ task for His disciples
You shall be My Witnesses Witnesses – To tell what they have seen and heard. Where? To who? In Jerusalem In Judea and Samaria And to the ends of the earth

14 Jesus will Return Acts 1:9-11 – Jesus went to heaven and He will return one day Acts 1:9 – Jesus was taken up to Heaven Acts 1:10-11 – Two angels affirmed that Jesus would come back again
