1 Maribyrnong Park Football Club Junior Development plan 2013

2 Background Promotion to Div 1 is a key component of our player (and parent) attraction and retention policy To be competitive (early) we believe a focussed plan is warranted Work on the plan must commence 2012 in prep for 2013

3 Main Survey findings Player’s experience at Marby is being heavily impacted by the quality of their coach (good and bad) Player’s development (skill attainment) lacks milestones ie players can reach all the way to U16 and not be able to demonstrate basic skills. Team selection policy needs to be consistent and transparent. Grading for top team selection should be considered

4 The plan – Coaching Capability
Coaches will be assessed against set criteria by a panel prior to being assigned Break the nexus between coaches and parents/players where warranted (best coaches, coaching the best players) Mid season and end of season debrief to be conducted Comprehensive player “handover” to be completed at end of season Coaches will be coached; Senior coaching/mentoring to be in place Coaches will undergo a mid season and end of season “debrief” to assess competency, to share feedback about techniques that are working across the coaching fraternity and to build plans to address any identified gaps. They will supply a comprehensive summary of the capabilities and development needs of each of the children in the team they coach

5 The plan – Basic skill attainment
Players in all teams will have basic skills measured and recorded The goal will be for all players to reach a consistent benchmark calibrated for their age group (minimum) Coaching manual outlines The Marby Way and provides the coaching toolkit Team selection is to be based on similarly abled kids playing together - players will move teams based on skill level ie team selection to the top division may be graded for the first time in recent years

6 The plan – Fostering emerging talent
High performance culture will celebrate, promote and reward highly talented players On field leadership behaviour is to be as valued as much as “technical footy skills” Marby to launch “All Marby – team of the year” to augment annual B&F - a highly aspirational title recognising the role of some niche/specialist players. U16s/U18s buddy program to avoid the cliff between senior and junior club movement Talented juniors to be in the mix for senior selection if warranted like R Atkins/T Miller in past seasons (both played for senior side when U14)
