1 Higley Marching Knights 2017
Rise

2 Program Philosophy The Marching Knights is a semi-competitive marching band. Need to practice outside the school day, but try to minimize the time commitment. Show is designed to be fun for the students, the audience, and to allow the students to have a good product out on the field. Keep the marching band tradition of supporting the football team. Play at home and away games. Attend marching band festivals. Goal is to qualify for the State Marching Festival. Shift at the State level

3 Welcome to Band Camp We’re heading north to Camp Shadow Pines

4 Freshman Band Camp Like years in the past, we will be hosting a freshman orientation band camp. Leadership will be required to attend. Camp will be held on Thursday, July 13th - 9am-Noon Friday July 14th - 9am-Noon

5 Band Camp Schedule Starts July 17th and ends on July 21st
We will meet at Higley at 7 am for camp. All members will report for camp early Monday morning. Rehearsals will be designed to balance appropriate work with ample rest and relaxation. Our goal is to maintain the focus of camp without the distractions of everyday life. Friday there will be a performance in the football stadium starting at 7:00 pm. All family and friends are invited.

6 Camp Schedule Continued
All meals are provided for each member. Each meal will be served at the same time each day. Healthy snack foods will be encouraged to be packed. If staff deems food to not be healthy or additional foods brought are not appropriate, they will be confiscated. Dinner will be provided before the Friday performance. 9 What students need to bring.
Water Bottle (e will be marching outside!) We will have ice water for unlimited refills Hat Proper marching/running shoes Closed toe Ties up Not loose at the heel Sunscreen Pencil Binder with page protectors for all percussionists Winds will need one for some of the warm-ups. What students need to bring. The following Items are required to board the bus to camp. If a student does not have these items, they will not be allowed to ride to camp and will subsequently miss camp until they are delivered with the required items. Water Jug – this is possibly the most crucial item on this list. The brand here is Coleman, located in any major department store they generally sell for 10 dollars. A sharpie can be used to write a name on the lid. Hat Sunscreen Pencil Binder with Page Protectors

10 What Students need to Bring Cont.
Running Shoes Close-toed Shoelaces Flexible Light material Marching take a lot of effort and creates a physical strain on the body. Wearing the proper shoes not only helps make the job easier but it also keeps your body safe. These shoes are worn by professional athletes all around the world so please take it seriously when we say these are required. There are many great brands, so just pick one!

11 Season Fees Band Camp - $200 Ancillary Fee - $200 Class Fee - $50
$100 by June 21, $100 by July 12 Paid to HIA, check or cash Ancillary Fee - $200 This covers costs such as show music, show design, uniform cleaning, supplies, staff, shirts, and band camp This can be paid to the bookstore with tax credit. Anyone need a form? If not using tax credit, payment needs to go to HIA. Class Fee - $50 This covers costs such as pep music, guard equipment, props, drum heads Pay to the bookstore with all other school fees. Can’t be tax credit

12 Equipment Fees and Costs
Instrument Rental/Maintenance Fee - $50 Paid by anyone who uses a school instrument. Due the 1st day of band camp. Pay to the bookstore. Can’t be paid with tax credit. Shoes $40 Only if needed. Order as a group. Gloves Only needed by wind/brass players and the drum major. Buy 2 pair. Woodwinds needs cotton and brass need SureGrip.

13 Equipment Fees and Costs
Socks Need to be crew length or longer and match the color of the shoes. Shorts To be worn under the uniform. Must be cotton mesh. Wrist bands For percussionists only. Must be black. Flip Folder For woodwinds and brass only. Will need extra windows Purchase online before camp. YOU NEED 11 WINDOWS!! Lyre For wind and brass players who own their own instrument to hold music when playing

14 Regular Season Schedule
Class daily before school 6:25 – 7:20 We will really finish around 7:05 Tuesday evening full band 6 – 9:00 PM This means walking out at 9. Thursday evening full band 6 – 9:00 PM (through August) Percussion practice 6 – 9:00 PM Thursday (Begins Sept.) Guard practice 6 – 9:00 Thursday (Begins Sept.) Sectionals weekly. Should be no more than 30 minutes. Required as part of grade. Needs to be scheduled with Mr. Sharp the first week of school. Calendar of performances available on Mr. Sharp’s teacher page.

15 Class Contract Link will be given out on the first day of classes and needs to be completed by the end of that week.
