Sister organization to SNA Raising funds for: Education and professional development Research Scholarships for SNA members 501(c)(3) organization Contributions are tax-deductible Established in 1964 Vision: “Well-nourished students ready for success”

Five School Nutrition Heroes Annually Heroes Go Above and Beyond to Make a Difference in the school and/or community Examples of the dedication and passion of all SNA members SNA Members nominate heroes Nomination Form for 2018 on SNF website in July

7 ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF SNF
Provides more than $100,000 in scholarships for SNA members annually Breakfast in the Classroom has provided $12 million to 275 schools in 17 States to help implement and expand breakfast programs Breakfast in the Classroom has increased breakfast participation by over 65,000 students and is projected to increase participation by another 30,000 in Cycle 4

Developed resources for SNA members who are interested in being a ‘nutrition hub’ Supports SNA public relations efforts to raise awareness about the importance of school nutrition programs Since 2014, has recognized 20 school nutrition heroes who go above and beyond to make a difference in their communities

10 WHY SHOULD I SUPPORT THE FOUNDATION?

11 HOW MUCH SHOULD I GIVE? Each person makes the decision based on his/her situation Gifts range from $10 - $500 Sustainer’s Circle – Monthly gifts of $5, $10, $25 or more Online option – Frequency Easier to make a significant gift Cash, check, credit card, online Click on “apple” to make online gift

13 STATE INCENTIVE FOR ANNUAL GIVING
Achieve 3% participation in your state 20% of the dollars contributed by the State (including members and other individuals in the state) will be available to the State Affiliate for scholarships (state conferences and professional development) Achieve 5% participation in your state 25% of the dollars contributed by the State (including members and other individuals) will be available to the State Affiliate for scholarships

14 GOALS FOR YOUR STATE Membership – May 2016: # MEMBERS IN YOUR STATE
3% = # donors– YOUR STATE receives 20% of total for scholarships 5% = # donors– YOUR STATE receives 25% of total for scholarships

15 STATE INCENTIVE FOR ANNUAL GIVING
What counts? $10 or more Made by an individual (not just SNA members) Made by State affiliate (included in minimum total, not in % participation) Made between January 1 and December 31 Not restricted for a Special Fund Based on membership totals in May 2016 Scholarship process will mirror the process used by SNF for its scholarship program

16 ASK OTHERS TO SUPPORT THE ANNUAL FUND
Make Your Contribution First Always easier to ask somebody to do something you have already done You can ask others to “join” you in support of the Foundation Ask others to consider a contribution Would you “consider” making a gift to the School Nutrition Foundation? Would you join me in supporting the 2017 Annual Fund?

17 SAMPLE CONVERSATION: PART 1
Do you know about the School Nutrition Foundation? Tell the person about the Foundation in your own words Allow the person to ask questions Ask: “Would you consider making a contribution to the Foundation?” We hope the answer is YES If the person says NO, thank the person and tell him/her that you hope he/she will consider later in the year

Then ask: “Would you consider a contribution of $50?” If the person says that is more than they wish to give, ask: “What amount would be comfortable for you?” If the person is hesitant, you may want to mention that gifts of $10 or more are included in the incentive program for the state affiliate to get scholarship support from the Foundation Ask the person to complete a pledge form or to make the gift online Say “THANK YOU” Encourage person to ask 2 – 4 others to “consider” a contribution

19 WHY DO PEOPLE GIVE? Belief in the mission of the organization
“Well-nourished children ready for success” Somebody asked him or her to “consider” a gift Others were giving to the organization; giving is contagious Like to be recognized Makes them feel good!

20 BE POSITIVE! 3% means 3 out of 100 say “Yes”
And you will succeed! 3% means 3 out of 100 say “Yes” 5% means 5 out of 100 say “Yes”

Announce 100% participation by State Officers Designate a table for the Foundation Ask volunteers to assist Provide information on scholarships Allow members who donate to add names to a list Allow person who makes a gift to ring a bell Name badge ribbons and lapel pins for donors of $10+ Inexpensive give-away drawing for all who contribute

27 LEGACY CIRCLE Recognition of those who make a “planned gift” for the future of the Foundation and for the future of school nutrition: Name SNF as the beneficiary of a retirement plan Name SNF as the beneficiary of a paid life insurance policy Make a provision for the Foundation in your will or in a codicil, which is an addendum to your will
