6 The Passover Then came the first day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. And Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, "Go and prepare the Passover for us, so that we may eat it." Luke 22:7-8 Is it the bread? It is true that this is representative of His physical body. But is this the context of 1 Cor 11?

7 The Passover "And when your children say to you, 'What does this rite mean to you?' you shall say, 'It is a Passover sacrifice to the LORD who passed over the houses of the sons of Israel in Egypt when He smote the Egyptians, but spared our homes.'“ Exodus 12:26-27 Passover began the worship of Israel

18 The Passover Why unleavened bread?
Jesus was the Bread of Life (John 6:35) Leaven = Sin (1 Cor. 5:6-8, Gal. 5:9) Jesus was without sin (1 Pet. 2:21) 1Co 5:8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. Ga 5:9 A little leaven leavens the whole lump. 1Pe 2:21 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps: 22 "Who committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth"; Joh 6:35 And Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.

19 The Passover Why unleavened bread?
It speaks to the sinless nature of Jesus It speaks to His death in the flesh for our sin 1Co 5:8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

20 The Passover Why fruit of the vine? Ampelos – Grapevine
Symbolic of blood (Gen. 49:11) Unfermented (Ex. 13:7) Greek word for vine is same as word for vineyard; it refers to grape vines Ge 49:11 Binding his donkey to the vine, And his donkey's colt to the choice vine, He washed his garments in wine, And his clothes in the blood of grapes. Ex 13:7 "Unleavened bread shall be eaten seven days. And no leavened bread shall be seen among you, nor shall leaven be seen among you in all your quarters.

21 The Passover Why fruit of the vine?
It speaks to the purchase of a covenant Heb 9:18 Therefore not even the first covenant was dedicated without blood. Ac 20:28 "Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.

22 The Order of Communion Hebrews
1Co 5:8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

25 The Lord’s Body What is the context of 11:29? Therefore when you come together in one place, it is not to eat the Lord's Supper. For in eating, each one takes his own supper ahead of others….. 1 Corinthians 11:20-21a

26 The Lord’s Body What is the context of 11:29? Therefore, my brethren, when you come together to eat, wait for one another. 1 Corinthians 11:33

27 The Lord’s Body What is the context of 11:29? Waiting for each other
Does Paul call the church “the body”? For we, though many, are one bread and one body; for we all partake of that one bread Corinthians 10:17

28 The Lord’s Body What is the context of 11:29? Waiting for each other
Does Paul call the church “the body”? ….for the sake of His body, which is the church Colossians 1:24b

29 The Lord’s Body Here: the body = the local church assembly But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord's (CHURCH). 1 Corinthians 11:28-29

30 The Lord’s Body The error of the brethren in Corinth For first of all, when you come together as a church……Do you not have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and shame those who have nothing? 1 Corinthians 11:18a,22

31 How We Discern the Church
By being together when we take it - Communion is ONLY as a group - Communion belongs to the church Therefore, my brethren, when you come together to eat, wait for one another. 1 Corinthians 11:33 Question – does a second serving violate taking it together? Taking together means being of one mind, not unanimous timed partaking. If we offer it of one intent, then we have authority. However, if we are not all of one mind, then we do not.

32 How We Discern the Church
Discern means understand - Not exactly the same as “thinking about” - It means that we understand the meaning Question – does a second serving violate taking it together? Taking together means being of one mind, not unanimous timed partaking. If we offer it of one intent, then we have authority. However, if we are not all of one mind, then we do not.

33 How We Discern the Church
By being without divisions - It proclaims those who take it saved - It is a declaration of fellowship For first of all, when you come together as a church, I hear that there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it - 1 Corinthians 11:18

34 Importance of the Common Union
Memorial of the Lord Confidence of our brethren and body The corporate worship
