1 Clinical Audit Assessment of compliance to follow-up schedule following PRP in patients with Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy Department of Retina and Vitreous Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai Audit Period: October, 2016 Auditing person: Dr Jayant Kumar

2 BACKGROUND Proliferative diabetic retinopathy patients need regular follow-up on a monthly basis following Panretinal Photocoagulation (PRP) The patients may need additional PRP if the follow-up of these patients reveals the need and thus timely follow-up can prove critical in salvaging vision of the patients and avoiding surgery or progression of the disease.

3 Why this assessment ? We noticed in our OPD that a lot of PDR patients lost to follow-up immediately following PRP. We have done this clinical audit to come up with the exact figures of patients who get lost to follow-up so that corrective measures can be planned

4 Methodology Study period: October, 2016
The case sheets of all the patients who first underwent PRP for PDR in the month of October, 2016 were reviewed The follow-up following laser procedure should be 100 % as per our standards.

5 Results 124 patients underwent PRP for PDR in the month of October, 2016 for the first time 107 patients were regular in their follow-up schedule following the laser procedure 17 patients lost to follow-up and did not present for the following 3 months

6 Discussion The results denote that around 13% of PDR patients in our clinic probably are of the opinion that the end of laser therapy is the end of their treatment regimen and hence do not comply to the follow-up schedule.

7 Corrective measure: PRP Completion Form
A new PRP COMPLETION FORM has been introduced as a corrective measure to improve follow-up. Next Audit to assess its impact: April 2017
