7 Algebra 1 Based on the Mathematics Framework for California Schools, symbolic reasoning and calculations with symbols are central in algebra. Through the study of algebra, a student develops an understanding of the symbolic language of mathematics. Algebraic skills and concepts are developed and used in a wide variety of problem-solving situations.

15 Attendance Be seated and start working by the first bell.
Attendance is recorded on time and based on seating chart. A maximum of 7 full day absences/28 TOTAL class period absences are allowed during the current school year.

16 Dress Code ACCEPTABLE HEAD COVERINGS San Pedro caps and beanies
Black, gold, and/or white only. MAY NOT be worn in classrooms or offices. ACCEPTABLE SHIRTS Polo Shirts, T-shirts, Blouses (with a full back and NOT sheer) ACCEPTABLE PANTS, SHORTS, SKIRTS OR DRESSES Must be mid-thigh in length Shorts or long pants Not hanging down below your hipbones ACCEPTABLE FOOTWEAR Close-toed shoes, low-heeled shoes Tattoos, symbols, logos that depict inappropriate themes or represent gang affiliations must be covered by clothing.

17 Electronics ACCEPTABLE USE OF CELL AND AUDIO DEVICES
Cell phones may be used ONLY during passing periods, nutrition and lunch only. NEVER use these items during class time, whether inside or outside of classroom. Audio/visual devices are not allowed. This includes iPods and cd/mp3 players. Please Note: Cell phones are the responsibility of the student. The school does not take responsibility for stolen items.

19 Consequences Prior to referral to the Dean’s Office, the following process will be followed, depending on the severity of offense/s made: Warning (Dialogue, Seat Change, Room Transfer) Conference with student Parent Notice (Detention, Contract) Parent Conference (Counselor, Dean, Teachers)

20 Algebra 1 Eight Mathematical Practices

21 Algebra 1 Grades Assignments may include individual classwork, warm-up, notes, textbook homework, journal or workbook, participation in collaborative work, and group output. Formative Assessments may include exit tickets, quick writes, concept quizzes, error analysis, and self-evaluation. Summative Assessments may include weekly tests, chapter tests, midterm, final exam, performance tasks, and project.

B 80—89% Meet A-G Requirements C 70—79% College-ready D 60—69% F 59% and below

23 Absences Turn-in homework on due dates assigned.
Inquire about homework missed during absences. Talk to teacher about possible make-up. Bring a note to SLC Office to validate absence and/or tardy. Extra credit is based on teacher’s discretion.

24 Pedro Action League SLC Theme Public Service
Focus on law, societal issues, world events, the role of the citizen, global studies, and national security. Explore careers in law enforcement and public services. SLC Motto: “ The more knowledge we possess, the more our community can progress.”
