Educational Talent Search
Overview of the ETS Program at College of the Desert:
Educational Talent Search is a postsecondary outreach program designed to motivate middle and high school level students to stay in school while encouraging their pursuit of postsecondary education. This program provides academic, career, financial, and personal counseling to 500 eligible participants attending three targeted schools including: Desert Hot Springs High School, Desert Springs Middle School, and Painted Hills Middle School. Educational Talent Search also serves students who have dropped out of high school, students attending alternative school, and veterans who are interested in completing high school and attend college by referring them to local agencies that specialize in assisting them in re-entering the educational system to complete their education.
Purpose:
To identify, recruit, and select participants who have potential to succeed in completing high school and enroll in college/university.
To familiarize participants and their families about the importance of attending postsecondary education, college selection and admissions, and financial opportunities to pay for college.
Provide students with academic preparation to succeed in middle school and high school to prepare them for rigorous college requirements
Provide students with experiences that will enhance their intellectual, cultural, and personal development
To motivate participants to maximize their personal and academic potential
