8 Budget 2017 Strengthening Cultural and Recreational Infrastructure
Canada Cultural Spaces Fund: commitment of $300 million over 10 years, to bring artists, cultural entrepreneurs, and organizations together in shared spaces for collaboration. To date, this Fund has invested $410 million in 1,381 projects in every province and territory, e.g. the Kenojuak Cultural Centre in Cape Dorset, Nunavut received a $4.5 million grant, to create an elder gathering space and a home for artists’ studios and exhibition gatherings.

9 Budget 2017: Taking critical steps to preserve, revitalize and enhance Indigenous languages and cultures, as part of ongoing work toward reconciliation. Commitment to create Indigenous Languages Act in partnership with Indigenous Peoples $69 million to enhance the Aboriginal Languages Initiatives $14.9 million for the Library and Archives Canada to support digitization of existing Indigenous languages and cultural materials, and development of Aboriginal Oral Testimonies Project $6 million to the National Research Council Canada – preserves oral histories by converting speech to text

10 Budget 2017 $50 million over 10 years to support construction of community educational institutions in official language minority communities

11 Budget 2017 Youth in Heritage
Investments in the Youth Employment Strategy ($395.5 million over three years) will: help more than 33,000 vulnerable youth develop the skills they need to find work or go back to school; create 15,000 new green jobs for young Canadians; and provide over 1,600 new employment opportunities for youth in the heritage sector.

$1.6 million for the ROM’s Curatorial Building repairs $8.3 million for the Massey Hall Revitalization Project $230,000 in programming funding for Canadian Multiculturalism Day Celebrations taking place on June 27 at the Harbourfront Centre
