1 Community Implementation Workgroup
Co-Chairs: Jennifer Leeman, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Jackie Shannon, Oregon Health & Science University Kerri Winters-Stone, Oregon Health & Science University This presentation was supported by Cooperative Agreement U48-DP and U48-DP from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The findings and conclusions in this presentation are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily represent the official position of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

2 Project Objective Develop, test, and refine implementation support strategies (training, technical assistance, and tools) with the goal of building community planners’ capacity to select, adapt, and implement evidence-based interventions (EBIs).

3 Project Specific Aims Continue to support, evaluate, and refine the Putting Public Health Evidence in Action curriculum with a focus on scalable approaches to delivery. Develop EBI-specific implementation support that supplements the existing curriculum with EBI-specific training, technical assistance, and tools. Develop measures of the effectiveness of implementation support. Describe variations in interventions and contexts and how they are associated with grantees’ performance of key components of the implementation process.

4 Work Completed – Aim 1 Refining and scaling Putting Public Health Evidence in Action Delivered in-person, 2-day sessions in NC to 120+ Delivered via 1-day webinar with in-person breakouts and pre/post online sessions in Oregon Piloted with 39 participants, replicated with 64 Added 2 modules: QI and Communication Delivered Train-the-Trainer Learning Institute at the APHA 2015 annual meeting

6 Trains community planners and health educators all steps in the process…
Establishing Goals & Objectives; Planning for Evaluation Assessing your Community Finding Evidence Selecting Best Fitting EBA Adapting Implementing & Evaluating …of adopting and implementing EBAs

7 Work Completed and Ongoing – Aim 2
EBI-specific technical assistance Piloted in NC Cohort 1 – Three webinars focused on corner store intervention Cohort 2 - Three webinars focused on obesity prevention interventions Piloting in Oregon Targeted call for proposals to do corner store or community physical activity interventions Four grants awarded EBI-specific technical assistance (Summer 2016)

8 Work Completed and Ongoing – Aim 3
Develop measures of the effectiveness of implementation support Data collected on training participants’ capacity to plan, implement, evaluate EBIs Factor analysis planned for Summer 2016 Formative work to develop measure of implementation quality and stages if implementation completion (Summer 2016)

9 Work in Progress – Aim 4 Describe variations in interventions and contexts and how they are associated with grantees’ performance of key components of the implementation process. Conduct formative study of OHSU grantees: code grant applications and interview grantees

10 Future work Manuscripts planned
Findings from factor analysis of measure of planners’ capacity Approaches taking Putting Public Health Evidence into Action to scale Create a cohort of community-based grantees for CPCRN collaborating centers

11 Contribution to/Impact on D&I Science
A curriculum for training community planners to select, adapt, implement, and evaluate EBI Implementation support (training, TA, tools) for specific EBIs Theory on how implementation support works for whom Measures of implementation supports effectiveness

12 Contribution to/Impact on Cancer Prevention & Control
Knight Community Partnership Program Grantees all focus on CPC EBI-specific implementation support for CPC EBI Focus now is on OHSU’s areas of expertise In future could develop and pilot for other CPCRN focus areas Measures and theory being developed are widely applicable to CPC implementation support initiatives
