1 Waterproof Baseball Hat
Alex T. 11 Virginia

2 Have a great idea for an invention (required step)
The problem that I want to solve is that unexpected raincloud in the middle of your walk or your baseball game. Soon the rain, whether you’re wearing a baseball cap or not, is dripping down just about everywhere. If you are wearing a baseball cap, the rain is keeping it wet and increasing the wetness of your head. It’s annoying, isn’t it? A waterproof baseball hat, my invention, will completely solve that by waterproofing it so the outer layer of your hat gets wet but your head stays dry and will add a small layer around the back of your neck and ears so as to stop the rest of your body from getting wet. This can also be used for baseball players as the design will not be covered and they won’t have to wear a large raincoat over their uniforms. Your body loses most of its heat through your head so it will also keep you warmer.

3 Investigate inventions and ideas of the past
(required step) Possible Ways to Stay Dry Watch on tv awning Indoor stadium Umbrella Raincoat Poncho Rain hat Waterproof baseball hat Strap on umbrella Swim cap The problem with any sort of umbrella is that it is so big it could obscure the view of the people behind you. The problem with TV is that you can’t be there cheering on your team. The problem with an indoor stadium or an awning is on sunny days you can’t be there cheering on your team and enjoying the outdoors. The problem with a traditional waterproof hat is that it does not display your team logo. Large hoods and raincoats could obscure your view more than a baseball hat, and there’s often the possibility that you could forgot to bring them, but you’ll always remember your team baseball hat.

4 Draw pictures and diagrams to show your invention and how it might work.

5 Build your prototype or model of your invention.
The materials used were: One baseball hat Duct tape Glue Dots Trash bag Ziploc bag Velcro dots Knowledge My first try before I tested It PHASE ONE I originally planned to sew the trash bag on to the hat, but then I realized that It would be to difficult to sew It on and water would leak through holes in the bag. I decided to use duct tape and glue dots instead.

6 Test your invention. My second try Phase 2
I tested it in the shower at my house and it worked but my face and everything from ears forward got wet. I needed to add a larger back flap and a new face flap. The face flap was a Ziploc bag glued on to duct tape with glue dots on the front of the hat.

7 Keep improving your invention.
PHASE THREE When testing the second prototype, I realized that the face flap worked great, but only if the rain was coming straight at you, and only for the nose up. I needed to expand the flaps again, this time using an even larger ziplock bag to wrap all the way around the brim of the cap and hang down lower. After I made these modifications, the hat worked. Test Number Two

8 The water off hat Our motto: rain off, game on Only $20!*
This hat could be useful in a game if it started raining enough to annoy you, but not enough to cancel the game. *$25 for one with a team logo or decoration of your choice like Initials plus shipping
