6 The Guidelines are a tool to facilitate the kind of work that McMinnville school district is doing.
Oregon’s Early Learning and Kindergarten Guidelines offer a continuum of learning and development, for children ages three through kindergarten, in the domains of approaches to learning, social-emotional development, language and communication, literacy, and mathematics. In every domain, the Guidelines reinforce the concept that some children, including those with special needs, may need varied approaches to instruction to ensure they have access to learning and opportunities to develop and master new skills, behaviors, and concepts. For dual language learners, the Guidelines support parents and educators in valuing the home language and understanding how dual language learners demonstrate learning. They serve as a bridge between Oregon’s learning standards for children ages 3-5 and those for children in kindergarten.
