Trafficking Trafficking is the movement of people by means such as force, fraud, coercion or deception with the aim of exploiting them. It is modern day SLAVERY BCC Crime Reduction Team

5 Someone is in slavery if they are:
Forced to work – through mental or physical threat Owned or controlled by an ‘employer’, usually through mental or physical abuse or the threat of abuse Dehumanised, treated as a commodity or bought and sold as ‘property’ Physically constrained or has restrictions placed on his/her freedom BCC Crime Reduction Team

What can you do? Under Section 52, of the Modern Slavery Act 2015, certain frontline staff who encounter a potential victim of modern slavery are required to notify the Home Office. BCC Crime Reduction Team

What you can do: Try to speak to the person on their own and ideally away from the place of potential exploitation Be yourself, speak to them to find out what is going on-what is it that is concerning you? Explain you can get them help Modern Slavery is a Safeguarding Issue, so initially speak to your Designated Safeguarding Lead for reassurance or confirmation of your concerns (dial 999 if the victim is in imminent danger) BCC Crime Reduction Team

Report to Police phone 101 or Crimestoppers phone Protect yourself, as you have a legal duty to report and complete a Duty to Notify Form (even if the victim says they don’t want help) BCC Crime Reduction Team

16 Help available to them:
The National Referral Mechanism (NRM) is a framework of help, used to identify victims and collage data. The NRM will be used to provide appropriate support and protection (via the Salvation Army) Will offer access to: counselling; housing; finance; and legal advice Anyone can identify a potential victim but referrals into the NRM must be made by designated police or local authority.
