1 Status of in-progress work of CEN/TC235 on revision of
EN 334+A1:2009 and EN A1:2009

2 Business Plan (BP) of CEN/TC 235
(CEN/TC 235 N 323 – January 2015) Priorities The priorities of the projects are as in the following listing order: Finalize the Revision of the EN 334 and 14382: 2009; Approach the inclusion of EN 334 and of EN in the ISO system. Expected deliverables WIs already approved by TC 235 and relevant proposals are to be delivered to CEN/CMC to approach ENQ+FV the proposals for: EN 334:xxxx EN 14382:xxxx

3 Accomplishment since May 2014
WI prEN 334rev and WI prEN 14382rev has been officially activated by correspondence. CEN/TC235/WG1 Meeting on 11th November 2014 CEN/TC235 Plenary Meeting on 12th November 2014 Decision to change the track of the two WI from UAP to Enquiry+Formal Vote Procedure following a recent Technical Board (BT) decision that changes the enquiry procedure Withdrawal of EN 13787:2001"Elastomers for gas pressure regulators and associated safety devices for inlet pressures up to 100 bar “ Approval of revised Business Plan (CEN/TC 235 N 323): updated version of the business plan 2015 with the changes agreed in the meeting has been circulated for final approval and decision has been taken by correspondence Completion of final drafts prEN 334: A1:2009 and prEN 14382: A1:2009 including also the preliminary comments from CEN Consultant

4 Pending Items: Final drafts of ENs 334 & were foreseen to include the official comments from CEN Consultant  issue: renewal of contracts 2015 for CEN Consultants are on-hold (Plan: after check by TC235 Secretary, this issue do not impact on the process) Compliance to CEN Rules to be double-checked for “material table (Annex G)”  Plan: final drafts to be amended accordingly Italian Delegates (in charge to finalize the editorial review) anticipated that some technical comments have been highlighted during the editorial review  Plan: comments to be discussed in a WG1 Meeting

5 Action Items : CEN/TC235/WG1 meeting has been arranged at the End of May 2015 with the purpose to finalize and release the final drafts of ENs 334 & revision; Secretary CEN/TC 235 to doublecheck the conformity of the texts of final drafts released by WG1 vs. drawing up CEN rules  final drafts to be amended accordingly; These final drafts shall be circulated to Plenary TC235 members at least n.2 months before their meeting date to approve these documents and to launch the Public Inquiry (foreseen within October 2015); Available candidates from Manufacturers shall present their application to ISO 161/WG5 through their National Standardization Bodies (DIN, UNI, …)

6 Pressure regulators - EN 334:2005+A1:2009
The main amendments in comparison to EN 334:2005+A1:2009, deal with: Up-dated the normative references. Added terms and definitions. Inclusion of flange ratings as per the available ENs standards both with PN and class designations. The PN 20 / 50 designations, as per ISO , have been kept only for spheroidal graphite cast iron, because at the time of writing, there was not available any EN standard for class designation; Minimum requirements for elastomeric materials following the approach already adopted for metallic materials; Improving of the “fail open” and “fail close” characteristics as per the CEN rules i.e. implementing for each characteristics, where originally missed, the relevant requirement / test method / acceptance criteria; Inclusion of provisions for surveillance in use as already done for SSDs in EN 14382; Closing force for stand-by monitor when classified as safety accessory to PED as already done for SSD when classified as safety accessory to PED; Antistatic characteristics; Statistical strength test on the basis of PED provisions; Definition of Cg flow coefficient and an improvement of KG flow coefficient by adding the definition / test method / notice of its limits; Improvement of the functional performance classification; Up-date of Annex G – Materials; Up-date of requirements/test procedure and acceptance criteria for non-metallic materials Vent limiter as possible fixture to be assembled in the pressure regulators; Integration of environmental requirements.

7 Safety shut off devices (SSDs) – EN 14382:2005+A1:2009
The main amendments in comparison to EN 14382:2005+A1:2009,deal with: Up-dated the normative references; Added terms and definitions; Classification of two in series SSDs as safety accessory to PED; Full reference to EN 334 for end connections, flange rating, nominal and face to face dimensions, materials (metallic and non-metallic), verification of strength of pressure containing parts; Statistical strength test on the basis of PED provisions; Antistatic characteristics; Vent limiter as possible fixture to be assembled in the SSDs; Integration of environmental requirements. IMPORTANT NOTES: common parts of EN14382 vs EN 334 shall be deleted in EN 14382 EN shall be released in a more “light” format , linked w/ EN334 the n.2 standards (EN 334 & EN 14382) shall be used in combination

8 Process of EN 334 & EN 14382 to ISO Standards - Background:
ISO 161/WG5 plans to write an ISO , with the target to have it on the long run under the Vienna agreement. Possible issue could be to lead the experts from the different areas of the world to a common understanding on first hand, and write the part 1 (ISO ) (Identical adoption); then, WG5 can write the “part 2s” ISO , -3 ,-4 etc…: the “part 2s” can be put under the existing EN numbers (Modified adoption) and the regional legislation like PED and GAD will be handled in the part 2s. ISO 161 proposal has the purpose to have still effective the specific ENs 334 & requirements at European level (e.g. PED, ATEX requirements) and at the same time to have an ISO standard in compliance with technical ENs 334 & key requirements (e.g. design safety coefficients, basic requirements of materials, …); can this approach be a good solution to save the “ratio” of existing EN standards without loose of their original key points/requirements and to achieve FARECOGAZ target? ISO 161 is oriented for mode #1, it means “ISO lead”; consequently, the future “EN334 & EN14382 harmonized with ISO 23555” shall be under the “ISO umbrella” and availability/saving of the current technical key requirements (e.g. design safety coefficients, basic requirements of materials, …) shall be delegated/guaranteed by the results of discussions inside ISO 161/WG5.

9 European Manufacturers Position on ISO Process:
Ref.: TCII FARECOGAZ Meeting in Bergamo (I) on 16th April 2015 Due to the fact that: current requirements and world-wide acceptance of EN 334 & EN have to be “saved and protected”; approach and strategy of ENs 334 & should be transposed in the minimum requirement of ISO standards; the leadership of ISO 161 and ISO 161/WG5 shall be owned by DIN Representatives for the next three years; New ISO WI has been already requested by DIN to move ENs 334/14382 at ISO level European Manufacturers agree on following action plan: Support for future management of EN 334/14382 under the umbrella of ISO according to the approach suggested by ISO 16 “Strong team” (number & competencies) of experts from FARECOGAZ have to be appointed for n meetings of ISO 161/WG5 during the n. 3 years of ISO process Available candidates shall present their application to ISO 161 through their National Standardization Bodies (DIN, UNI, …)
