1 Saturday January 30th, 2010 Woody Windischman, Stud of the year, and Rob Bogue. If you recall the name, Rob’s the author of The SharePoint Sheppard's Guide, and Woody’s the author of Professional SharePoint Designer. All 3 are members of the local SP user group here in Indy.

2 Summary of Sessions I Attended
Introduction to SharePoint Designer 2010 This session provided good information on what to expect with SPD Better workflow creation (import workflows to Visio), integrated site setting (no need to go out to the site’s UI to modify settings). My highlight was when the question was asked “what setting was removed that was such a pain in SPD 2007”? I answered “Contributor mode/settings”… I won Woody’s book that I already own so I stood up and gave it way to some lady that wouldn’t stop thanking me….ha Site Collection Administrators: Can business users handle the responsibility (and can IT trust them)? This session provided some real good information on how to pick and choose your SCA’s, ensuring that your SCA’s are aware of permission levels (who has access and to what), making sure that for every site collection you have a secondary and primary SCA , and basically just had me thinking almost the entire time “I wish I heard this before site collections were created …ha”. Very good session and it also left me thinking about an educational campaign on the topic of SCA’s.

3 The session blew me away…
Goodbye STSADM, Hello Powershell The session blew me away… Covered a lot of details on how to create aliases for your commands (a lot of typing is done if you don’t, I can confirm). The point that was heavily stressed here was “Goodbye STSADM”. I won another book here guessing the answer to: “we use “get-SPsite” to show site collection info, what’s used to see sub site info”, “get-SPweb”. These are commands that are bundle in the module provide in 2010 called Microsoft.SharePoint.Powershell. SQL Database Administration for SharePoint This session started off slow (I couldn’t stop yawning), but it picked once they got past the topic of installing WSSv3. Discussed maintenance plans , indexing, and general Do’s & Don’ts.

4 This session, wait let me catch my breath….
Social Computing and SharePoint Inside the four walls and Outside the four walls This session, wait let me catch my breath…. First I wasn’t sure why I found myself in this one, but here it goes. The speaker started off talking about “Outside the fours walls”, and this means outside the company. Touch on topics about facebook, tweeter, LinkedIn, and shared this very interesting video. So I’m thinking at this point, where does SharePoint fall in with this? Then he starts on “Inside the four walls”… This is when I asked “my boss isn’t much in to this social internet world…yet, can you provide some use cases that may help”? He first talks about how most of the major MVPs (Microsoft Valuable Players) “tweet” out on twitter, how LinkedIn was more on the business side of social computing, also talked about NewsGator. Oh yeah, none of my business cards that went in the vendors bowls got pulled so I didn’t when a TV (like Mike S), nor a notebook, but the #412 did win me a nice ambidextrous Microsoft ArcMouse I made it home, immediately logged onto my twitter account that was created back in the beginning of 2008 (had to request a password reminder) and I’ve logged onto it about 2 times now, about the same with facebook, and LinkedIn. While on twitter I ran across this link, it’s a picture of a “Basement Datacenter” of someone that most of you know … Can you guess who? Hint: It’s not me, I only got one server in my laundry room
