2. Who is Responsible?
Looking at the question, “Who is responsible for what happened?” is an important, but very difficult job.
There were huge numbers of both individuals and groups of people as a whole that acted wrongfully during the Holocaust.

3. And I Said Nothing In Germany They first came for the communists
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a communist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew.
Then they came for the trade-unionists,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn’t speak up because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me––
and by that time
no one was left to speak up.

1. How does the poem "And I Said Nothing" show the actions of some people in Germany during the Holocaust?
Many people were bystanders- they just stood by and watched this happen.
2. How do you think Pastor Niemoller felt at the end of the poem?
Alone, scared.

He was not the one being targeted, he was scared.
 4. What is the danger in saying or doing "nothing"?
If everyone does nothing, very bad things can end up happening.

By the time the United States was ready to rescue them, however, 4 out of every 5 Jews who would die in the Holocaust were already dead.
