1 Influence of haemoglobin Concentration and peripheral muscle pO2 on tumour oxygenation in advanced head and neck tumours  Bernardino Clavo, Juan L. Pérez, Laura López, Gerardo Suárez, Marta Lloret, Jesús Morera, David Macías, José C. Martínez, Maite Santana, María A. Hernández, Francisco Robaina, Martina Günderoth  Radiotherapy and Oncology  Volume 66, Issue 1, Pages (January 2003) DOI: /S (02)

2 Fig. 1 Median pO2 (upper panel) and percentage of values ≤10 mmHg (lower panel) of head and neck tumours and the anterior tibialis muscle. ’Tumour (n=30)’ shows the analysis of all patients. ’Tumour (n=16)’ and ’Muscle (n=16)’ show the data in the sub-group of patients undergoing simultaneous tumour and muscle pO2 measurements. Tumours in the most anaemic patients showed lower median pO2 and higher percentage of values ≤10 mmHg than in non-anaemic patients in both groups ‘Tumour (n=30)’ and ‘Tumour (n=16)’ (*P<0.05). Differences in muscle oxygenation were not significant. Error bars show the 95% confidence interval. Radiotherapy and Oncology  , 71-74DOI: ( /S (02) )

3 Fig. 2 Correlation of muscle and tumour pO2 in 16 patients with head and neck tumours (r=0.809, P<0.001). ∗, Non-anaemic patients; ○, anaemic patients; ▵, most anaemic patients. Radiotherapy and Oncology  , 71-74DOI: ( /S (02) )
