Was based in the Medieval times from around AD Made with Religious principles in mind Based upon stories in the Bible Christian Art Had no portrait paintings

4 Pietistic Illuminated Manuscripts
Were manuscripts decorated with luminous colors as in gold and silver. They were composed of copied religious texts that were usually written in ink. Since there was no paper then, parchment was used to record the text on.

5 Illuminated Manuscripts
The parchment was of calf called vellum, sheep, or goat skin that was brushed, stretched, and then dried. Small pictures were used in text or page border as decorations. Historiated Initials were also used in the beginning of paragraphs as large alphabet decorated letters.

6 Pietistic Mosaics Were put together in one creation to make a picture with many pieces of colored glass or pebbles First the surface was covered with a glue as in cement Then the pebbles or glass could be placed in an arrangement to create the desired pattern

7 Pietistic Mosaics Usually had a gold colored glass as background
Were used to decorate the churches Stories they heard of in worship could be visualized

8 Pietistic Fresco Painting
Were done by painting water-based pigments onto freshly applied plaster Was done with paint that was first powder with water added and as it dried it became permanent The surfaces usually painted like this were walls in the churches along side the mosaics Was used in murals due to durability and a matte surface
