2. Project Green Teso
is a youth based project whose main objective is to educate, engage and create an environmental protection culture through climate change education, forestry, adaptive agriculture and value change addition.
We educate
- empower youth and locals with climate change knowledge and awareness
Engage Teach the populace how to effectively combat climate change through;
1. Tree planting;
2. practicing adaptive agriculture to increase crop yield and consequent benefits;
3. add value to produce
Create culture
1. change mindsets
2. Influence people to protect and conserve the environment
3. Impart life long skills to adapt, mitigate and improve living standards

4. CLIMATE CHANGE IN AFRICA
Africa combined emits only 16% of the world’s greenhouse gases AND YET it suffers and will continue to suffer the worst climate change effects.
Africa’s current population is 1.22billion while its food capability is a mere 30% only. - (UNDP 2015)
Food demand is set to raise by 74% by 2050 and this could even get worse.
With Africa’s population set to hit 9billion by 2050, we’re looking at a world record disaster!

5. UN Metrological Organization
Uganda is one of the developing countries in Africa most prone to climate change and its effects.
By 2020, Tropical countries like Uganda will exceed their historical limits if climate change is not controlled
In the past decade, eastern and northern Uganda have had a 50% increase in droughts.
If the current rate of deforestation continues, by 2050, Uganda will have no forest cover at all, -

6. The solution…
All these effects can be reduced and statistics changed only through mitigation and adaptation. – IPCC 5TH Assessment Report
Through forestry and agroforestry;
dry land can be naturally regenerated,
land made more resilient,
crop yield increased by 50%;
Greenhouse gas emissions reduced remarkably and;
Above all, it has been proved the cheapest method available. (case studies under FAO and AU in the drylands region in Africa have proved this)

7. VALUE CHAIN ADDITION;
Value chain addition is the process of adding value to the locals’ produce; animal, crop yield or forestry.
Adding value to products increases the cost advantage over other products
The locals can control when products get on the market
With good management, locals could start exporting their local products especially the local food.
Increased income for the government through tax.
Business and job opportunities.

8. What does Green Teso do?
Green Teso therefore provides a natural, familiar, cost effective and affordable solution to climate change and its effects.

9. Agro-forestry increases food yield thus providing food security.
Locals are encouraged to create model forests and integrate the tree planting with agriculture
Agriculture includes crop and animal farming. Goats and chicken are added to each model forest after 3years of its creation.
Forests reduce soil erosion, absorb carbon-dioxide, make land resilient and reduce temperatures
Agro-forestry increases food yield thus providing food security.
With increased food production, value is added to the food as a preservation and entrepreneurial mechanism hence more earnings for the locals
How does it work?
We create “Green Teso “ clubs in schools as a channel to disseminate information to students
Practically engage students in tree planting and adaptive agriculture in each school.
Students go out into the community to sensitize and engage locals as Green Teso ambassadors

Curbing climate change and its effects that include droughts, floods, soil erosion, destruction of property, poverty and death.
